Thread Arrows now also can offer out screen printing services including screen printed workwear and/or promotional clothing including printed T-shirts, sweatshirts, polo-shirts, etc. Thread Arrows will only usually offer a screen printing service if you need garments with quantities over 100 because of high costs of screen print setup.

Screen Print

Screen printing involves the application of base colours by ink. The traditional method of making T-shirts and workwear is screen printing. When screen printing a product the design has to be broken up into separate colours that make up the design. This is done in modern day today by a vectored design using software like Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, etc. Each layer of colour then has a separate screen made using light reactive chemicals. Every screen is made out of a fine mesh surface. Where the chemical has been exposed to light the chemicals breakdown and are washed off leaving spaces in the mesh.

The ink can then be screen printed onto the t-shirts directly to the garment or onto transfer paper which is then placed onto the T-shirts via a heat transfer (heat press). If the direct printing method is used, the T-shirts are place on a solid board (platen). The colours are then applied individually by placing the screen manually or automatically on top of the T-shirt and forcing the printers ink through the relevant screen onto the T-shirt.
